I’m a little surprised (and disappointed) that a guy like Urlacher would fall for a nut-job like McCarthy. She’s the moron who started the moronic (and dangerous) fable that childhood vaccines can lead to autism.

She has a reason to think so because her kid “developed” autism overnight after getting vaccination shot. And whether it’s true or not, she is right about something – vaccines are a billion dollar industry, in fact, for 2009 revenues from global vaccine market was 27 billions. So why can’t the drug companies take out heavy metals from vaccines? Children can be extremely allergic to weirdest things starting with eggs and peanuts and other foods to pet dandruff. Is it a stretch to think that some babies have a bad permanent reaction to, for example, getting a small dose of mercury into their blood system?

My first thought is why is Jenny McCarthy with Brian Urlacher, she can do better. I’m a Bears fan and Brian is a Hall of Fame level lineback, no question about his talent on the field. But off the field, the man has a bad track record of treating women pretty badly. And Krissu, I don’t question that the global vaccine market is a huge industry but there are numerous studies that are not funded by the pharmaceutical industry that show no links between vaccines and autism and the only study that showed a link was doctored and that doctor lost his medical license because of the fraud. Jenny’s campaign has caused many parents to forgo vaccinations and serious diseases are coming back as a result putting all small children at risk. You can opt for vaccines that don’t contain mercury by the way. And there is a difference between campaigning to stop mercury as an ingredient in vaccines and perpetuating the fear of a link with autism. I have empathy for Jenny because of her son, and I understand why a parent would want to look for answers as to why something happened to their child and how difficult it is to accept the fact that we simply don’t know. But Jenny’s use of her fame in her campaign was irresponsible and dangerous. I would not use the term “moronic” because she is a parent who’s just trying to find answers about what happened to her son which is not moronic, but given the scientific evidence she was bombarded with exactly because of her public campaign, her willing disregard of that was very irresponsible. Very very few children develop autistic symptoms immediately after a vaccination, but it has happened in rare cases. And do try not to confuse the timing for a few of the children with vaccines is a correlation, which is not the same as causation.
