Ellen DeGeneres is officially out of “American Idol,” because she “hated being critical,” says a source familiar with negotiations.

In fact, Gossip Cop hears she asked to be released from her contract the day last season ended, but was told there was no chance unless they found another panel.

Which brings us to today’s HUGE news.

Gossip Cop hears from a reliable source that offers have been made to Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.

A lot can happen between tonight and the announcement, expected at Fox’s TCA Press Tour presentation on Monday, but as of now we’re told the two have been tapped to be the new “American Idol” judges.

Reps for Lopez and Tyler did not return calls, and a rep for “American Idol” issued a “no comment.”

    So, Ellen hold it as long as possible, but still it was a no… her contract was for 2 years, right?… Anyways, she’s not next season…
    Plus, if I’m not mistaken, Kara DioGuardi is clear too, right?… No contract with Fox for next year… Think she won’t come back?…
    Simon is out to do The X Factor…
    So, that leaves the panel with who?… Randy?… Maybe Randy, Jennifer, and Steven?… and the 4th judge would be a go?…

    When is The X Factor due?… I haven’t kept track on that one, but would definitely like to watch… I prefer that format, to the American Idol one… :)

    Guess we’ll have to wait until Monday when this critics schedule thing comes out… unless GC would like to take a coffee with some insider or anything… LOL

    Ellen was funny at times but seemed like she waited to see what Randy was going to say before she spoke…but if Jennifer Lopez and / or Steven Tyler are on there next year, I just won’t be able to watch…can’t stand her and I couldn’t stand looking at him week in and week out…think they can do better than this in choosing judges…Kara and Randy are brilliant judges…Simon of course will be missed too! Why not Bret Michaels, Graham Nash, Jon Bon Jovi, Carol King, hell even Kelly Clarkson or Queen Latifah, Beyonce, …somebody other than these two mentioned in the article..geez!

    I think Jennifer an Tyler could make good judges. Now that Jennifer is pretty much a sure thing I’d like to see them hire Diddy. Sit them side by side. Considering they use to date it could make for some good fireworks. lol
