MAG: Jennifer Lawrence and Jessica Chastain in “Vicious” Oscars Catfight

“Oscar Hotties’ Vicious Catfight!” blares a headline from the National Enquirer, which claims that Academy Award Best Actress nominees Jennifer Lawrence and Jessica Chastain are “at each others’ throats.”

What?!

The supermarket tabloid says Chastain, who’s nominated for Zero Dark Thirty, “has her claws out” for Silver Linings Playbook star Lawrence after Lawrence beat her out in the category at the SAG Awards.

According to a so-called “source” for the mag, “Jessica can’t stand the fact that Jennifer is stealing her thunder!”

The purported “insider” notes, “What’s more, the critics have been gushing over Jennifer’s award show speeches, and it’s been killing Jessica!”

Ooh!

The Enquirer further claims that Chastain was mortally offended by Lawrence’s “Saturday Night Live” monologue, where she jokingly trash-talked Chastain, as well as the other Best Actress nominees.

The tab’s “source” says, “Jessica felt Jennifer trivialized her acting role and didn’t see any humor in the bit,” revealing, “She can’t stand Jennifer all the more for it.”

How silly.

This story, that is.

Gossip Cop checked in with a source close to Chastain, who calls the magazine’s assertions “hysterical.”

Our insider adds that the Mama star has “never said a word” about Lawrence.

And Chastain herself took to Facebook to slam the rumor, writing, “I’ve done two photo shoots with Jennifer Lawrence over the years and have found her to be utterly charming and a great talent.”

JESSICA CHASTAIN FACEBOOK RESPONSE

I find it very sad that media makes up bogus stories about women fighting in this industry. Filming The Help was the most amazing experience and yet, that is the film Im most asked about in regards to “fighting on set”. Why do we support the myth that women are competitive and cannot get along?

I think all of the actresses recognized this year have given incredible performances. But more important, they’ve all shown themselves to be filled with generosity and kindness. I’ve done two photo shoots with Jennifer Lawrence over the years and have found her to be utterly charming and a great talent. I’ve told her how beautiful her film work is.

Please don’t allow the media to perpetuate the myth that women arent supportive of each other. Everytime an actress is celebrated for her great work, I cheer. For the more brilliant their performance, the more the audience demands stories about women. With support and encouragement, we help to inspire this industry to create opportunities for women. And as we all know: a great year for women in film, is just a great year for film xxjes

    I think that these kind of stories are only good for people to start comparing them. While the Oscars are frequently called a race, that should not mean that one of them is “better” than the other. Chastain and Lawrence are two different kinds of people and also different kinds of actors with a different approach to just about everything.

    It’s scary how fast these rumors spread. It’s good to know that they aren’t true. I am looking forward to seeing them on the Academy Awards soon. Sadly, I’ll be working late at DISH the night the Awards show comes on. It’s a good thing that during prime time, my DISH Hopper DVR will automatically record all four of my local networks using the PrimeTime Anytime
    feature, so it should be waiting for me to get home. A few of my favorite shows are on at the same time, so it’s nice that with the feature enabled, I can record up to six programs at a time.
