Jennifer Hudson And Fantasia “American Idol” Series Finale Video: Watch “Divas” Performance With LaToya London
Thursday’s “American Idol” series finale reunited the “season 3 divas.” Together, Jennifer Hudson, Fantasia Barrino and LaToya London gave a show-stopping performance of “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” Watch below!
The three former contestants earned their “divas” nickname for the way they belted out R&B, soul, and Motown music. They were widely believed to be the frontrunners during the 2004 season until one results show changed everything. On that infamous night, it was revealed they had split the vote and were consequently all in the Bottom Three. As everyone knows, Hudson was shockingly eliminated. London ended up placing fourth. And Fantasia won the season, beating runner-up Diana DeGarmo.
Of course, though she didn’t win, Hudson has emerged as the most successful of the trio, having earned a Grammy, as well as an Oscar for Dreamgirls. She is currently starring in The Color Purple on Broadway, which meant that the finale performance had to be pre-taped. She also sang “Remember The Music” from the soundtrack of “Empire,” which she appeared on last year.
After “Idol,” London released an album in 2005. In 2012, she won an Ovation award for Featured Actress in a Musical for The Color Purple: The Musical. The Grammy-winning Fantasia, who is expected to release her fifth album this year, also turned to the theatrical stage, and she, too, appeared in a production of The Color Purple back in 2007.
Clearly, these “divas” have more than just “Idol” in common, but they most definitely have the show to thank for sparking their careers. Check out the “Idol” finale video below!
