Jena Irene Debuts “We Are One,” Gives “Goosies” on American Idol Finale (VIDEO)
Jena Irene made her bid for the season 13 title on the “American Idol” performance finale on Tuesday. The finalist — who amazingly made it this far after being one of the judges’ wild card picks for the Top 13 — kicked things off with “Dog Days Are Over” by Florence + the Machine.
Keith Urban told Irene afterward, “The way that you owned that stage is so good. That’s the sign of a real pro. The progress you’ve made in leaps and bounds has been phenomenal.” And Harry Connick Jr. even said the song should be on Irene’s eventual album, though he later said Caleb Johnson’s first performance beat hers.
In the second round, Irene reprised her chillingly beautiful rendition of “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis. Urban gave Irene her first ovation of the night, calling her a “trailblazer” and “pioneer” for seemingly inspiring Christina Grimme to perform the track on “The Voice” finale on Monday.
Jennifer Lopez, once again, got the goosies, and said the performance “overwhelms” her with its amazingness. Irene finished out the night with what will be her debut single, “We Are One,” earning raves from the panel.
