Jay Z And Beyonce NOT Buying Rights To Confederate Flag, Despite Report
Jay Z and Beyonce are NOT trying to buy the rights to the Confederate flag, despite a new report. Gossip Cop can bust this rumor, which was started online and picked up by several webloids that didn’t bother to fact-check the claim.
According to Complex, Dazed and Metro, among others, Beyonce and Jay Z want to own the rights to the flag, so no one else can use it on merchandise.
Each outlet cited a supposed lawyer for the couple named Ralph Hammerstein saying in an interview with Newswatch33, “If my clients are successful, purchasing the rights would mean anyone who wants to produce merchandise using the Confederate flag would have to get permission from Mr. and Mrs. Carter.” Hammerstein is further quoted as saying, “My clients have expressed that they are not looking to profit from the use of the flag, but rather prevent any further use of the flag on merchandise.”
While Beyonce and Jay Z’s supposed reasoning for wanting to buy the rights to the Confederate flag seems plausible, Gossip Cop has learned that the story is completely, 100 percent not true. Beside the fact that one cannot buy the rights to the Confederate flag, Hammerstein is not a real lawyer for the couple. Actually, there is no licensed attorney at all in the U.S. named Ralph Hammerstein, Gossip Cop has learned. Additionally, Newswatch33 is a satire site, and the stories it posts are not to be taken seriously.
