Jay Leno on 60 Minutes: I Was “Blindsided” By First Firing From Tonight Show (VIDEO)
Jay Leno opens up about losing “The Tonight Show” (twice) in a new interview on this week’s “60 Minutes.”
The longtime late-night host says that being briefly dropped for Conan O’Brien in 2009 “blindsided” him and stung like a romantic rejection.
“You know, you have a girl [who] says, ‘I don’t want to see you anymore.’ Why? You know, she doesn’t want to see you anymore, okay?” he tells interviewer Steve Kroft.
Leno has nothing but praise for Jimmy Fallon, the comedian replacing him this time around.
“I think he’s probably more like a young Johnny [Carson] than almost anybody since,” the departing host says of Fallon.
The full interview airs on Sunday.
