Jax “My Immortal” American Idol Video: Singer Is “Superstar” On Top 3 Night!
Jax undoubtedly gave one of the best performances of Top 3 Night on “American Idol” on Wednesday. Watch the videos below!
The singer, a favorite among the judges despite some up and down weeks, has been receiving largely unanimous praise as the competition has wound down, with some declaring her a new frontrunner. That didn’t change tonight, despite having to perform three songs for the first time this season, and underwhelming the judges a bit in the last round.
Jax was the last to take the stage in the first round, for which she performed “My Generation” by The Who, a track chosen for her by Scott Borchetta, the “American Idol” mentor this season. The rendition was declared “freakin’ awesome” by Keith Urban, who even called it her “best performance.” Jennifer Lopez said she “killed” it, and Harry Connick Jr. said she “made the most of [her] opportunity here,” agreeing with Urban that it was her best showing to date. It was hardly surprising, then, when Lopez later said Jax won the round for having the most “winner-like” performance, topping competitors Clark Beckham, Nick Fradiani and Rayvon Owen, who was later eliminated.
She followed that up by doing “My Immortal” by Evanescence in honor of East Brunswick, New Jersey for the Hometown Dedication round. The emotional, slowed-down performance was utterly spellbinding, and once again had the judges’ heaping praise on her. Lopez said, “I’m gonna tell you why I love that and what we just saw when you went home [in the taped package]. It’s a big song. It gets big, and you chose to do it really, really soft and intimate. There’s a humility and a confidence that you have that I think is integral for a superstar.” Connick was just as in awe, and told Jax he couldn’t put it any better than Lopez did.
In the last round, which was Judges’ Choice, Connick said they chose Paramore’s “Misery Business,” and that if she could pull it off, all the pieces of the “puzzle” would be complete. Jax opted to change up the arrangement a bit, however, which threw the panel off. Connick felt that she didn’t “drive” the performance, Urban thought her vocals and the melody didn’t mesh well together, and Lopez was disappointed because they purposefully gave it to her to rock out, and she did a largely softer version. “It’s the week before the finale, it’s about stealing the show,” added the superstar. “Steal the show, Jax!”
Following Tyanna Jones’ elimination last week, Jax is the only female artist in the Top 3. Though she had a rough ending, the “My Immortal” performance was a standout of the night. On part one of next week’s season finale, the aspiring star will find out if she’s in the Top 2. Check out the videos below, and tell us if Jax has your vote!
