I still think that Britney shouldn’t need a guardian. There are those who are mentally ill, and even in their cases they may get a guardian only for a short while, and have to renew this relationship again and again.
For mentally sane woman, who simply had a ‘breakdown’ (and I am still not sure if shaving one’s head can be called a breakdown or not, people may do that) to have a guardian appointed for life, and with all the money she has, she can’t even hire her own attorneys to fight that, is insanity IMO.
That judge was on a power trip.
But when it comes to the news itself, I think Jason has been good for her. She is much more homey now, and his age probably balances her somehow. I hope they last. I would like to see dad loosing conservatiorship to Jason (I just don’t like her dad for making that step! It feels good to control her money, doesn’t it? and get paid a lot of money for doing it? and daughter having to ask your permission if she wants to buy a car or a house or anything like it!). But I hope that the new relationship won’t come between them. If they keep having this great relationship, then hopefully it won’t, and Britney may actually get more freedom.

But that’s the thing, Britney has no right to petition for a release! She is right now in a situation where she is legally seen like a severely mentally ill person.
And since when is up skirt pics a sign for mental breakdown? Is it classy? Hardly! But mental illness? Wow, in that case all Playboy models and porn industry models should have a guardian!
Attacking pap car with an umbrella? Gee, most celebs at one time or another get ticked off at the paparazzi, and most of them are not hounded nearly as much as Britney is, and they sometimes smash the camera and do other things (not that it is a right behavior, but I can’t blame them either). Things you listed with kids were stupid, but to loose her legal rights for a life time? Isn’t america all about ‘do your time and get a second chance? ‘ Outrageous!
I don’t know if she is bipolar or not. All I know is that a big % of our teens are behaving much worse then she was!
And as I mentioned, biggest issue I have is that she has no right to fight it, she has no right to hire a lawyer to take it up with court. Unless daddy releases her from it she is stuck for life! Rolling Stones magazine made a big article about it, along with comments how unusual that result is even for someone who is seriously mentally ill. You have to be Charles Manson type of mentally ill. (Which jury found he is not). And Britney is nothing like that!
Is she behaving again? Yes. But she can’t even sing a song for her album that is not approved by her daddy. She is an adult! She should have a right to choose what she wants to do, and not have a guardian ! And why FOR LIFE?? Without giving her any right to fight it, not back then, and not in the future!? It just rubs me the wrong way!

This seems a bit creepy. Marriage should be a union of two equals – if she’s not mentally fit to cope without a ‘conservator’ then he’s taking advantage of her by living with her and marrying her. There’s something unsettling about the control the men in her life seem to have over her.

It’s amazing to me how little people understand mental illness and being under a conservatorship. My roommate is a state conservator for people like Britney who don’t have a relative willing to step up and do it like Jamie and now Jason is doing. You have to have absolute medical proof that there is something wrong mentally for a judge to keep you under one. We will never know Britney’s diagnosis but the judge has the proof he needs to keep her under one. My roommate said she more then likely has a multiple diagnosis and she bets one is schizoaffective disorder. She’s lucky to have her father and a man who loves her and is willing to help care for her regardless of her mental condition.

I think having her boyfriend be her conservator is a poor idea.
