Is Janet Jackson’s Muslim clothing upsetting her family? A new report claims the famous clan is worried for the mom-to-be’s safety in London. Gossip Cop can separate the fact from the fiction.

“Fears For Janet! Family ‘Terrified’ After New Baby Bombshell,” RadarOnline blares in an alarming headline on Tuesday. According to the accompanying story, Jackson is “proudly showing off her baby bump at 50,” but “her family fears she could be making herself a target.” It’s noted, “The youngest sister of late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, stepped out in London this weekend for the first time since announcing that she was pregnant with billionaire husband, Wissam Al Mana, 41. And she was wearing what appeared to be Islamic dress.”

The problem, says the site, is that “as Janet’s ultra-conservative parents — Katherine, 87, and Joe Jackson 89 — process the news that their ‘Unbreakable’ singer has broken free of the family’s religion, the source claimed that there are concerns over the safety of her unborn child.” That so-called “source” is quoted as saying, “Some of Janet’s family are scared for her safety because Janet is going out very pregnant in London at a time when there are a lot of religious extremists and other crazy people in the world.”

Yes, there are. But in this particular case, RadarOnline is needlessly stoking fears. London is actually very welcoming to Muslims. In fact, the webloid fails to mention that the city’s mayor, Sadiq Khan, is Muslim.

So, while it’s true that Jackson stepped out in what’s seen as Islamic garb, she is not the only one in London embracing such traditions and no more a “target” for a terrorist attack than anyone else. Gossip Cop is told that the Jackson family is only concerned about the singer having a happy and healthy baby… and that’s it.
