Janel Parrish, Val Chmerkovskiy Kiss After “Love Poem” On Dancing Finale! (VIDEO)
Janel Parrish and Val Chmerkovskiy performed an unbelievable “love poem” that played up their incredible chemistry on part one of the “Dancing with the Stars” finale on Monday. As one of the four remaining couples, they had to perform two routines. First was a reprise of their samba dance, as chosen by the judges, followed by the long-awaited freestyle, a staple of the “DWTS” finales. Check out the videos below!
As Gossip Cop reported earlier in the season, Parrish and Chmerkovskiy created a sexy samba for Week 6 last month. Julianne Hough selected it to be performed again, calling it one of their “strongest” dances, but this time the “Pretty Little Liars” actress was hampered by a rib injury. Still, the couple managed to get a 10 from head judge Len Goodman, and the 37 points earned now topped the 33 they received originally.
But the duo really shined in the second round, performing a freestyle that was by turns romantic, heartbreaking, chilling, and breathtaking… and sealed with a kiss. Bruno Tonioli said afterward, “This was the visualization of a love poem.” Carrie Ann Inaba said that unlike other flashy freestyles, this was different. “Yours went inside of all of us. And I think you changed us for a minite. To me, I think that’s what’s being an artist is all about. You guys, together as a team, are immaculate,” she told them.
Goodman felt similarly, saying, “What I like is it was just the two of you. No messing around with the periphery.” And highlighting the unbelievable lift, he added, “It combined athleticism with artistry.” Lastly, Hough noted, “You couldn’t have chosen a better freestyle because that was so honest and so pure. It just shows the trust you guys have had from day one to now. I don’t know what else to say because it was absolutely breathtaking.”
Parrish and Chmerkovskiy received a perfect 40 for the dance, giving them a total of 77 out of 80 for the night. That placed them third on the leaderboard at the end of part one, and they will face off against Alfonso Ribeiro & Whitney Carson (80 points) and Sadie Robertson & Mark Ballas (77 points) during part two on Tuesday. The scores from tonight will be combined with both the points from the fusion dances performed tomorrow, and then added to the viewers’ votes from tonight to determine who wins the Mirror Ball Trophy.
