James Corden Grammys Opening Video: Watch Grammy Awards Rap Monologue!
James Corden opened Sunday’s 2017 Grammys with an amazing rap. Watch below!
The hilarious Brit started in (pretend) frustration and fluster after several (fake) mistakes, and then launched into a rap about saving the big night. As he spit rhymes, Corden name-checked everyone from Beyonce to Twenty-One Pilots. He even paid tribute to late greats like Leonard Cohen. “Live it all up, this is the best, with President Trump, we don’t know what comes next,” he rapped.
Though currently best known for hosting the “Late Late Show,” Corden is no stranger to presiding over awards ceremonies. In fact, he’s hosted the BRIT Awards not once, not twice, but FIVE times. The Tony winner also received rave reviews for hosting last year’s Tony Awards.
As Gossip Cop reported, it was announced last November that Corden would host the 59th annual Grammy Awards, replacing LL Cool J, who had emceed from 2012 through 2016. In revealing the news, Recording Academy president Neil Portnow said, “He’s got big shoes to fill after the magnificent run we had with LL Cool J, but James is a commanding, dynamic showman who is perfect to host the Grammy Awards.” Interestingly, Corden and LL Cool J briefly shared stage time together at last years Grammys, but neither had any idea at that point of the transition to come.
After the 2016 show, Corden did a special carpool karaoke with Justin Bieber. But though it’s one of the comedic star’s most popular bits, he’s said he won’t be incorporating the beloved segment into the Grammy ceremony. Surely, though, he does have some creative surprises planned for throughout the night. Check out video of Corden’s Grammy Awards opening below!
