Simon Cowell and Jada Pinkett-Smith are partnering on a new reality show to find the world’s best deejays, it was announced Wednesday.

The series will be produced by Cowell’s SYCO Entertainment and Will Smith’s production company, Overbrook Entertainment, along with Sony Pictures Television.

Says the actress, “This show will comb the world to find a new breed of talent.”

“I am happy to be creating it alongside Simon Cowell, the Sony team, and my partner Miguel Melendez, on behalf of the Overbrook family,” she adds.

Cowell says he’s “been working on this show for over a year and we wanted to partner with the right people.”

“As soon as I met Jada and Miguel from Overbrook, I knew they would be our ideal partners,” he explains.

But why a show about deejays?

They “are the new rock stars. It feels like the right time to make this show,” Cowell says.

The show is expected to air in both the United States and the U.K., although the networks have not yet been announced.

Anyone who calls a DJ – a deejay wants walling up and killing via firing squad using vinyl.. what a sanctimonious prick of a man. Nothing is sacred these day’s, everything is a big money spinning (no pun intended) game.. and what the hell does Jada Smith have to do with any music knowledge whatsoever, apart from her husband once made records.. that makes her an expert right?

Greeeeeeat… American Idol for DJ’s?? More nerds with their machines making music. Why don’t they do something good for the music industry and have a reality show for bands?? I’m not talking “boy bands”. I’m talking actual bands (ppl who use their abilities and INSTRUMENTS to make music). Music’s dying……. UGH!

The only reason people become DJs is because they don’t have the talent to be a muscian

  • DJ / Producer

That is absolute bollocks!! Any DJ who wants to make a name for themselves these days also has to have the ability to produce their own music. An electronic music producer has to know musical scales, keys, chord progressions etc, they also have to know how to use their chosen sequencer inside out, they also have to know how to arrange music, they also have to be versed in mixing & mastering as professional engineers cost a considerable amount of money.

I’m not sure what genre of music you are into but I suggest you look a bit further into the type of musicians that you are bashing here before making irrational statements like the one above

Obviously you are biased but believe me the only people who think DJs are talented are DJs themselves.Which is why you see them constantly blowing smoke up each others arses .If they had talent they would be a musician end off.

Your comments are very naive Ee. You need to realise that the skill-set needed to be a good DJ is totally different to those needed to play or write music directly.Yes the technical aspects of DJing – ie mixing one record into the next are fairly easy to master, the skill comes in having a good ear for music and being able to track down the best songs, and knowing how to juxaposition records together and build a set over a number of hours (7,8 or more in the case of many underground DJs), creating tension, highs and lows, and dropping bigger records at the right times.

I listened to JD Twitch’s ‘Beats In Space’ mix from the end of last year a couple of days ago, it was brilliant he played a huge range of different genres dating back from the 60s to present day stuff and managed to pull it all into a mix that flowed beautifully from start to finish. The ability to do that only comes from years of dedication to collecting records and figuring out ways to fit them together.

Theres a HUGE distinction to be made between guys like that and the likes of Guetta and SHM who just bang out big tune after big tune (or just put on a pre-recorded mix CD and pretend to mix the songs together in the case of SHM :-s), one after the other while jumping up and down in front of a stadium full of gurning idiots!
