“I have recently been asked by the president-elect to perform the national anthem for the swearing in ceremony at the inauguration and I am so excited,” Evancho revealed on the morning news show. “It’s going to be awesome.” The 16-year-old singer placed second on the NBC talent show back in 2010 when she was only 10-year-old. That same year, she performed for President Obama at the National Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony at the White House. “I felt really honored to have the chance to perform for the president again,” she said.
Evancho has the distinction of being the youngest singer to perform a solo concert at New York’s Lincoln Center. She has also released multiple gold and platinum albums, and debuted her pop song “Apocalypse” earlier this year. The singer will follow in the footsteps of Beyonce, who sang the national anthem at President Obama’s second inauguration in 2013, and Aretha Franklin, who performed during his first ceremony in 2009.
