It’s Official: Chris Weitz not directing “Breaking Dawn”

For months on end there has been speculation about “Breaking Dawn,” and who would direct the final chapter of the saga.

Gossip Cop has received official confirmation from Chris Weitz‘s rep that he will not be directing the film(s).

Fans had hoped for some time Weitz, who directed “New Moon” (and “The Golden Compass” and “About A Boy” before that), would helm “Breaking Dawn,” but it’s a no go.

Weitz is next slated to direct a personal project about an undocumented Mexican laborer that he himself is partially funding. That film begins next month.

So loved was Weitz there was even a rumor – albeit false –  that stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner had written a joint endorsement, urging Summit Entertainment to lock down the director for the final installment. 

Ultimately, it was Weitz’s decision.

As Gossip Cop reported last month, though officially no decision has been made about whether to split “Breaking Dawn” into two films, a well-place source said dividing the final book into two movies is “the direction that it’s going in.”

We’re also told Summit is currently looking at top-tier directors to helm the final “Twilight” film(s).

    we knew it months ago… as Chriss said that , after New Moon’ s promotions…and he’s right… Summit has fuc*ed his movie with absurd imposed cuts…

    I love Twilight but thought that New Moon was weak. I am very happy that Chris is not doing Breaking Dawn. I wish Catherine like visionairy type person could step in. She had found a way to keep all the details and emotions that the book was known for. This is a Girls series and don’t worry about appealing to the boys/men. They don’t consider women when they make those stupid action movies or special effects movies. Just let us have our romantic/drama movie with a some action. Thanks

    I love Chris, but i confess i don´t want him for BD… Actually i liked more the twilight. i think Catherine brought a great dynamic to the film… Catherine brought passion, tension, desire for the characters Bella / Edward, i think she could be a great director for BD. Can you imagine her vision for the honeymoon? it would be very sexy and lovely ( i think)

    I must agree I love Chris Weitz and what he did with New Moon he did stick to the book a lot…but what people fail to understand is that he doesn’t write the scripts so no matter how many directors you may have it always comes down to the HOW the script is written….Yes the visual effects is his job but the chemistry in the set is the actors job….As for catherine I dont know if I want to see her in BD?….I just hope they don’t mess this up BD seems to be a lot of fans favorite and I can see why, but my favorite book is Eclipse and I can’t wait to see it on June 30….So with that being said I do agree BD should be split into 2parts the book is too detailed to put everything in one movie if they do I dont think it will be great…I’m mostly worried about “Renessme’s” character How about everyone else????

    Ok a few things to say about this….
    1) Thank God he is not directing Breaking Dawn, Twilight was so creative and amzing, New Moon made me want to take a nap, and I am a HUGE fan of the sreies!!! This is something that needs a more creative director to make it what it should be. Expecialy Breaking Dawn!!!
    and,
    2) Keeping what i just said in mind, Who cares who directs it, If they are creative give then the job!!!! We just need this movie made and soon!!!!!!

    I agree with Jeneruss….Except for making BD into 2 movies. I don’t think there is enough detail to make 2 movies. A lot of that book was fluff so a lot could be cut out. Not to mention….it was the worst book of the series. Stephanie builds up this big story only to have if fizzle in the end. Eclipse was my fav book also but with all the drama on who is dating who and the back and forth between fans. I have really lost my desire for the movies. Not supporting the rest of the movies I will wait for the DVD version.

    Chris Weitz just announced on Pop Sugar that out of the whole cast, Kristen has the worst potty mouth and cusses like a sailor. Billy Burke and the wolf pack said she is scary. Rob said in fall 08 that she was intimidating and scary. The cast said she was weird.

    I think New Moon was visually rich and well told. The cast love Chris and would be good. It looks like it is going to Gus Van Zandt from Vancouver. I think the fans are grossed out by all the tabloid b.s. and I think Summit knows that Kristen is trouble and unpredictable in public. See ew.com Kristen sounds off about Robert
