‘Indiana Jones 5’ Backlash: Fans Say Harrison Ford Too Old For Another Movie
Harrison Ford is returning for a fifth Indiana Jones movie, Disney announced on Tuesday, but many fans on social media aren’t particularly excited about the planned sequel. Many people feel that the actor, who will be 77 when the film is released in 2019, is too old to embark on another adventure.
In addition to Ford’s age, also causing backlash is that the fourth installment in the franchise, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, was widely considered to be a major disappointment. Regardless, Steven Spielberg, who directed all four previous films, will be reteaming with Ford for the currently untitled follow-up.
Of course, the negative reactions and jokes on Twitter are now pouring in. A user named @GynoStar said, “Indiana Jones is supposed to find ancient relics not be one.” A person with the handle @JerryMarkon expressed, “I’m a total Harrison Ford junkie but seriously, another Indiana Jones movie? Dude’s too old!”
Referring to a couple of the collaborators on the last movie, @bendreyfuss wrote, “As long as George Lucas doesn’t write it and Shia LaBeouf isn’t in it, there is no reason to be pessimistic about the new Indiana Jones film.” But a user with the handle @AkilahObviously said, “If there are aliens in this new Indiana Jones I’m gonna scream. The last one was so bad. So so bad.” Twitter user @whoisthebaldguy similarly argued, “That last Indiana Jones movie was horrific. why make another one?”
Quite a few people even pitched titles for the next installment. A user named @AminESPN suggested, “Indiana Jones and the Early Bird Special.” A person with the handle @TheFienPrint came up with: “Indiana Jones and the Beaten Dead Horse.” And @LibyaLiberty offered, “Indiana Jones and the Get Off My Lawn,” while a user named @normwilner recommended, “Indiana Jones and the Quest for the Hemorrhoid Cushion.” The fifth Indiana Jones movie, whether you like it or not, is scheduled to hit theaters on July 19, 2019.
