It’s been a few weeks since In Touch Weekly tried to undermine Britney Spears and Jason Trawick with reckless claims. So, as if on cue…

“Looks can be deceiving,” the mag declares, explaining how the couple could seem so happy together at the Grammy Awards. “In public, Jason appears to have a stabilizing effect on Britney,” In Touch continues, “But behind the scenes, multiple sources say, he’s not the knight in shining armor he is portrayed to be.”

And what, pray tell, is Trawick like in private? At least according to the tab’s (supposed) tattlers?

He’s “using [Spears] to rake in cash” and possesses an “almost Svengali-like control” over her personal and professional life, according to a “friend,” who adds, “She seems to do whatever Jason tells her to do.” Plus, Trawick’s “been spotted partying with other women late at night,” like at The Roger Room on December 30.

Hmm, wasn’t that the night Trawick was simply with colleagues at a talent agency co-worker’s party? Yeah, thought so.

As for the other claim — that “Svengali” Trawick controls everything Spears does — we think the pop princess herself sums it up. She calls the story “BULLS#!T.”

Gossip Cop suspects In Touch soured on the Spears-Trawick relationship when the marriage proposal the mag said would happen before 2009 ended never materialized.

After all, if Spears and Trawick can’t live their lives as In Touch dictates, why should the tabloid let them be happy at all?
