WATCH: Iggy Azalea Performs “Fancy” & “Black Widow” Medley On SNL
Iggy Azalea was the musical guest on this week’s “SNL,” hosted by Jim Carrey. It marked the first time on “Saturday Night Live” for the Australian rapper. She performed a medley of “Fancy” and “Black Widow,” which Rita Ora joined her for.
“Fancy,” which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 list, is off her hit debut album “The New Classic.” Azalea’s music video for “Fancy” is a must-see. The video is a tribute to Clueless, with the singer perfectly channeling the character of Cher Horowitz, from her clothes down the the film’s most memorable scenes.
Despite it being a undeniable hit, “Fancy” has been mocked by a couple of the late night hosts. In May, Jimmy Kimmel had the rapper on his show to translate and explain the lyrics to “Fancy” for older people. And in July, Jimmy Fallon did an impression on the “Tonight Show” of Neil Young singing an earthy 1970s-styled version of “Fancy,” backed up by the real-life Crosby, Stills and Nash.
Azalea, whose career is now on fire, was recently nominated for six American Music Awards, the most of any artist this year. Azalea received a “Single Of The Year” nomination for “Fancy,” as well as nods for “Artist Of The Year,” “New Artist Of The Year,” “Favorite Female Artist,” “Favorite Artist In Rap/Hip Hop,” and “Favorite Album” (“The New Classic”).
