Iggy Azalea And Nick Young Cheating Scandal Update: The Latest On The D’Angelo Russell Drama
Iggy Azalea and Nick Young’s cheating scandal continues to be at the center of both celebrity and sports news. As Gossip Cop reported, the couple’s relationship is up in the air after a video leaked showing Young seemingly admitting to cheating on her with an unidentified 19-year-old woman. Complicating matters further is that the tape was filmed by Young’s fellow Los Angeles Lakers player D’Angelo Russell without the former’s knowledge.
The situation started to come to a head on Monday night after the Lakers’ massive loss to the Utah Jazz was attributed in part to tension between Young and Russell. And in the early hours of Wednesday morning, Azalea sent a tweet actually thanking Russell for the video. But now it’s Thursday, and a lot has already changed. Here’s what you need to know.
1. Nick Young (Briefly) Broke His Silence
Young initially refused to talk to the media about the tape, but broke his silence during a press conference on Wednesday night. He didn’t take questions, however, instead vaguely said, “I think it’s best me and D’Angelo handle our situation in a private manner. It’s something we need to talk about. What happened is what happened. We’ve got to work on it.”
On Thursday afternoon, after not tweeting for three days, Young made a pointed comment, but then quickly deleted it. “2016 McDonald’s sale breakfast bowls, Burger King sale hotdogs dudes taken side chicks pics on the gram & tattle taling is cool .. I’m done,” he wrote. Young seemed to be referencing this week’s other celebrity/sports world scandal, in which singer Kehlani attempted suicide after being accused of cheating on Cleveland Cavaliers player Kyrie Irving when her ex, who goes by PartyNextDoor, posted an Instagram photo of them in bed together.
2. D’Angelo Russell Apologized
Russell and Young had a private meeting on Wednesday, and Russell appeared contrite in the aforementioned press conference. “I feel as sick as possible. I wish I could make things better right away, but I can’t,” he told reporters. Referring to fellow team mates’ disappointment in his actions, the rookie said, “If I’ve lost anybody’s trust, I’m going to work my tail off to gain it back because that’s something you need for a winning team. You need everybody to trust each other. You need the first guy to trust the 15th guy.”
Russell also insisted that he is not responsible for the video’s leak. “This just got in the wrong hands. It wasn’t a prank. It wasn’t something for everybody else to see. It was for my eyes, his eyes only,” he said, adding, “That was just an incident of just ‘playing too much goes wrong.’ I take the full blame for that, recording the video. But leaking the video wasn’t me.” Russell acknowledged, though, that he jeopardized Young’s engagement.
3. Iggy Azalea Isn’t Actually Sure Nick Young Cheated
Though the video in question featured Young talking about meeting another woman at a nightclub, nothing is explicitly stated about a sexual relationship. And on Wednesday night, Azalea suggested that she doesn’t really know what did or didn’t go down. In response to a fan discussing whether there’s actual evidence of Young having an affair, Azalea tweeted, “if theres proof of cheating, shed be doing me a favor to post it actually. im not tryna marry a cheater.”
But, as Gossip Cop said yesterday, Azalea and Young aren’t officially over, at least not yet. Asked by a follower “what’s up with you and nick now,” the Australian rapper replied, “nothing really. im chillin for now.” Another wondered, “if a dude cheated and we was already in the sh*t deep we could work it out…or nah?” Azalea responded, “nothing is black and white in life. every situation is different depending on the circumstance.” While the exact circumstances here are still unclear, Azalea did deny a rumor connecting Nicki Minaj to the tape’s leak.
4. Sports Stars Are Monitoring The Fallout
Fellow Laker Kobe Bryant told reporters, “It’s tough. There’s a lot to learn. I’m sure [Russell will] evolve and grow and be better from it… The guys are understanding. We are all human beings. Everybody makes mistakes. Important thing is to show compassion.”
On Twitter, retired football player Shannon Sharpe commented, “Please stop saying D’Angelo Russell made a mistake. He made a terrible decision, big difference.” The Hall of Famer went on to send a number of tweets engaging in a back-and-forth with followers about the controversy. Detroit Pistons star Andre Drummond also pointed out that Russell was getting ripped on Instagram.
5. Even Celebrities Are Weighing In
The scandal has been dominating social media, but it’s not only music and sports fans discussing the situation. On Thursday morning, Chris Rock poked fun at Young and Russell’s beef by tweeting a photo of them and writing, “These pros ain’t loyal.” The line is a parody of Chris Brown’s anti-girlfriend song, which repeats, “These h*es ain’t loyal.” Spencer Pratt also cracked, “If #DAngeloRussell confessed his love for @IGGYAZALEA everything would make sense.”
Maybe, maybe not. Gossip Cop will continue to have updates.
