Ice Cube Joining New ‘Spider-Man’ Movie?
Ice Cube is not set to play J. Jonah Jameson, the editor of The Daily Bugle in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot, despite a new report. Even the rapper and actor himself says it’s not true.
According to AllHipHop, Ice Cube is the next black star to “enter the Marvel universe.” The site writes that the part of the editor, previously played by J.K. Simmons, will now be played by a black actor. “Ice Cube might become that boss in the Spiderman Universe,” claims the outlet.
It seems the rumor began on Facebook, with a fan suggesting, “If you can’t beat J. K. Simmons then do something radically different that works too,” adding that Ice Cube has the right “personality and comedic timing.” Stan Lee, the man who created the web-slinging comic book character, didn’t give any credence to the casting rumor, writing, “Fans will have to wait a while to see who ends up landing the role.” But Ice Cube addressed the rumor straight on, tweeting, “This is news to me.”
As Gossip Cop previously reported, the upcoming Spider-Man reboot stars actor Tom Holland, who follows in the footsteps of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. The new movie is slated to hit theaters in 2017.
