“I admit I did get carried away, but I don’t see anything wrong with it,” Adam Lambert today told CBS’ “The Early Show” about his provocative performance on Sunday at the American Music Awards.
Lambert went on to say, “I do see how people got offended and that was not my intention. My intention was to interpret the lyrics of my song and have a good time with it.”
The performance, if you haven’t seen it, included Lambert kissing a male keyboard player, dragging a female dancer by her ankles, and having another dancer simulate oral sex on him as he sang his sexually charged song, “For Your Entertainment.”
After ABC received complaints about Lambert’s performance on the AMAs, “Good Morning America” canceled his scheduled appearance for today.
Well, “The Early Show,” in third place in the morning show wars, invited Lambert to the program, where he was interviewed and performed.
Lambert, who noted that at the AMAs there was a “Janet Jackson, crotch grab… I haven’t heard one peep about that,” added, “if it had been a female pop performer doing (his) moves… I don’t think there would be nearly as much of an outrage.” The reason for the uproar, he felt, is “because I’m a gay male.”
When asked this morning if he wanted to apologize, Lambert declined, and said his performance was at nearly 11 p.m., a time at which he didn’t believe children would be awake. “I’m not a baby sitter,” he said. “I’m a performer.”
And when questioned about what he’d do differently, if given the opportunity, Lambert admitted, “I would sing it a little bit better.”
Lambert didn’t perform “Four Your Entertainment” on “The Early Show.” Instead he sang “What Do You Want From Me” and “Music Again.”
The good-willed Lambert stated before his performance this morning, ”Parents, this is appropriate, I promise.”

Hes trying to push his agenda, not make music.
He is an idiot….I was so confused and shocked… By time he got done screaming, grinding his crotch in one of the dancer face, and sticking his tongue down someone throat… I don’t even remember what he sung. Then he says it is a double standard. I remember Madonna kissing a few girls but damn Adam what you did is in no way a comparison.
It is a double standard when you have Janet Jackson grabbing a guys junk, and lady gaga smashing whiskey bottles, and eminens whole image is all rape, murder and drugs… Adam is brillant as is his album For Your Entertainment.
There was absolutely nothing wrong with his performance. It was brilliant! And, yes there is a complete double standard. GOOD JOB Adam. I applaud anyone who takes risks like you did and stands by them. Come visit me in Colorado some time.
