Kris Jenner joined Caitlyn and her friends in New Orleans on Sunday’s “I Am Cait,” but the situation got awkward when the ex-spouses began to argue over when Caitlyn revealed she was transgender. Get the full recap below!
On the sixth episode of Season 2, titled “Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner? 2,” Caitlyn told her friends at lunch, “It looks like we’ll have another guest. Someone I know intimately.” Candis Cayne correctly guessed that Caitlyn’s ex-wife Kris was coming to visit, to which a surprised Chandi Moore responded, “Really?!” Caitlyn asked, “Why was your reaction like that?” and Moore explained, “I’m just surprised that Kris would be willing to hang out with all of use. She’s still learning about you.” Caitlyn acknowledged, “I get that. I think it would be very good for her.” Jenny Boylan then asked if Kris was “being good” to Caitlyn, who admitted, “She’s been fine. But she has not, over the last year, really called. I’ve reached out to her and we’ve spent some time together on a few occasions. But Kris is Kris.” Caitlyn further told the camera, “I am excited about her coming to town. I think it will be fun.”
Caitlyn and her pals next visited a bridal shop, where they tried on wedding dresses. Cayne said in a confessional that putting on a wedding dress is “a bit of an affirmation of what could possibly happen for me,” further noting that marriage “wasn’t even an option for trans women” in the past. Caitlyn then emerged from the dressing room in a lavish wedding dress, but got startled seeing herself in the mirror, and shouted, “Oh, Jesus Christ! Oh, my God.” Jenner then asked her friends, “What do you think?” to which Cayne responded, “That is flipping stunning!” “I think we need to pose,” Caitlyn said as she twirled around in her gown. “Did I ever think this day would come? No,” Caitlyn told the camera. “I’ve been in three weddings with the most boring clothes on in life. Finally, I get to wear something comfortable.” Cayne and Caitlyn then faced each other for a mock vow exchange, overseen by their friend Kate Bornstein, who said, “I now pronounce you trans bride and trans bride.”
Kris arrived in New Orleans and explained in a confessional that she was coming because Caitlyn had been acting “a little MIA.” Caitlyn greeted her at the hotel, and told her ex she was “very glad” to see her, and Kris expressed her excitement to meet all of Caitlyn’s friends. When Kris met the other girls, she asked their opinion of Caitlyn’s most “annoying” characteristic, and they all agreed that it was her conservative political views. Kris agreed, saying, “When you talk to somebody about your view… You can get a little cranky. You’re so crazy about this one thing, and no one wants to sit around and listen to this s**t. So shut the f*** up and relax.” Caitlyn’s friends laughed, but she appeared bothered by Kris’s comments. Kris also accidentally referred to Caitlyn as “him” and “he” a few times throughout their conversation, and after her mistake was pointed out, she ttold the group, “I’m sorry. Gotta keep correcting me.”
Jenny Boylan asked if Kris took Caitlyn’s transition personally, to which she said “definitely,” but also acknowledged that she knew Caitlyn was unhappy in their marriage. Boylan then asked if it made Kris “question yourself and who you were during [your marriage]?” She responded, ”No. I don’t know why but it doesn’t.” Boylan then asked if Cait told her “early on” that she identified as female. Kris answered, “No,” but Caitlyn shot back, “Oh, I did, too!” Kris, however, insisted she didn’t. “I think what happened was a conversation in a driveway. He [Bruce] says to me, ‘Do you ever wanna have more kids?’” Kris recalled. “And I said, ‘Ugh, God, no.’ And he says, ‘Ah, either do I! That’s great! I couldn’t have any more kids if I wanted to.’”
Kris went on, “And I go, ‘Wait, what?’ And he goes, ‘Back in the ’80s, I messed around with this or that and it kind of screwed up my sperm count, and you know, but whatever.’ He could’ve been [on] steroids, for all I knew, because he was an athlete. He never said estrogen, never said anything… There was no, ‘I’m transgender.’ It was, ‘I took some stuff in the ‘80s and my sperm isn’t good.’” An annoyed Caitlyn interjected, “I said I had a condition that I’ve been dealing with forever. I said that that I was on hormones, and that’s the reason it might be tough to get pregnant,” she insisted. Kris continued, “My friend said, ‘Have a bottle of wine and go have great sex,’ and we did, and we had Kendall. And then a minute later we had Kylie. But none of that was, ‘I want to be a woman.’” Caitlyn, however, insisted, “I certainly told her what was going on.”
Later that night, all of the women headed out to Bourbon Street to enjoy the nightlife. All of the women were throwing beads from a balcony to people on the street, when Kris informed Caitlyn that Kim Kardashian told her Caitlyn was considering dating men. “I don’t know,” Caitlyn answered. If I went through with my final surgery and all of that.” A shocked Kris said, “Really?!” to which Caitlyn said, “Yeah.” Kris added, “Let me just tell you that life is really short and you better figure it out fast.”
As the episode ended, the women drove home in a van and Kris told all of them, “I can’t wait to see all of you guys again,” and then joked, “Not you Jenner, just your friends.” And with that, Caitlyn gave Kris a big kiss on the lips.
