The Hunger Games

Protesters in Thailand are taking a cue from The Hunger Games in their opposition to the army’s recent military coup over the government.

The protesters have taken to using a three-fingered salute made famous by the popular book and movie franchise.

In The Hunger Games, the people of Panem use the salute as a sign of solidarity with one another and defiance of the oppressive Capitol government.

Thai protesters have given different meanings to the gesture, with it possibly signifying the French Revolution’s values of equality, liberty, and fraternity.

Thailand’s military rulers have threatened to arrest groups of five people or more who do not lower their arms when warned.
