I’m so happy to see Jennifer Lawrence getting credit for driving the box office for this movie. Of course fans of the books are going to see it, but they love her as Katniss. Finally a strong female role model for young girls, and an actress they can admire who isn’t known for misbehaving in public. She’s such a breath of fresh air. Love her and her beautiful smile!

  • Ava

You right… Jennifer Lawrence isn’t known for misbehaving in public. In fact, she was barely on the radar before HG promos began. She’s just starting out. Jennifer Lawrence isn’t driving the HG box office, fans of the books are. If the director would have cast anyone else it would still have the same box office numbers.

  • Connie

Sorry, Jennifer has already been nominated for an Academy Award for Winter’s Bone. She was seen by millions of people all over the world during the Oscars and during that 6 week period between nominations and the ceremony. She’s also in the X-Men movies and she’s quite popular in those. She’s the most talented 21 year old actress out there right now, according to everyone who’s worked with her. Even Donald Sutherland has been singing her praises and he’s notoriously hard to please.

Casting Katniss was critical, not just any actress could have carried the film the way she does. RT is at 85 percent fresh, and all of the reviews for Jen are glowing. No young actress has received reviews like this in a popular movie for years and years. She is special, not ordinary. She brought in moviegoers who haven’t read the books. That’s star power.

It’s really amazing that a movie about children killing other children has got everyone in a tizz but it really has to make money because it cost so much to produce in the first place and to say it’s the highest grossing non sequel movie when we know there are at least 2-3 more movies to come, aren’t they filming now or about to…..

  • Lt

    I thought the movie wasvboring.

  • AlteredbyaVampire(ABV)

I did read the books so I knew what to expect …….

  • Chloe

Jennifer was a wonderful Katniss; she is a breath of fresh air compared to the other young actress in Hollywood today. In the short amount of time that she has been acting, she is on top for young successful actress amongst her peers and the public. Jennifer speaks well and holds herself is such an upstanding way, whenever she is seen in public or has to speak publicly. I wish her much success in the future to come.

  • Chloe

They were not sure if they were going to make the remaining 2 movies. It totally depended upon how well the 1st movie did at the box office. Since it is breaking all kinds of records it is a sure thing that they will complete the trilogy. They are supposed to start filming some time I think in June, but that may now be delayed due to the rumored money dispute with the director.

  • Danny

I think they just meant that she isn’t a huge actress that everyone will go see the movie because it has a big name in it. She’s obviously big now, particularly because of this film AND because many people can now see her acting ability, but at first it was mainly the film itself and the books driving the box office numbers.

  • Danny

By non-sequel movie, they meant a movie that WASN’T a sequel. For example, New Moon, Breaking Dawn, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – those are all sequel movies, while The Hunger Games is the first in a trilogy. Hope I make sense lol.

  • Lia

Ah, you are obviously a Twihard who refuses to see that there are more to movies than dead-eyed girls choosing to completely change themselves in order to fit into their boyfriend’s world. great message….

  • Annie

THG production budget more than original Twi (not by much if you factor inflation) but markedly less than any of the Twi sequels – and yet Twi still couldn’t get decent makeup artists (or actors for that matter). The best thing? The wolves – and I’m not even Team J.

  • Troy

She seems really fake. Like she tries way too hard. It’s like she is trying to be this perfect actress who never says the wrong thing. She’s one dimensional. I prefer actresses who are themselves over someone who is pretending to be something they are not. It’s more attractive.

  • Troy

Not everything is about Twilight. Why even mention it?

  • Troy

If you actually believe that the best thing about Twilight is the wolves then you need more help than we can give you here.

  • Elizabeth

Wrong. The only films in the twilight series that cost more to make were the last two. New Moon only cost $50 million and Eclipse cost $68 million. Depending on where you look The Hunger Games cost anywhere from $80 million to $100 million.

I am a fan of both series and each have their ups and downs. The vampire’s make up looks horrible in the Twilight movies. I wish they didn’t make them so pale. It would have looked a lot better. Rosalie looked especially horrible. The wolves were just stupid.

  • Babyrezi

ohhhhhhhhh yeah keep repeating the Nomination story to anyone out there, as if we don’t know that it was only cause the WB was the best out of the worst movies that year. Seen it, nthg special, justtttttttttttt plaiiiinnn booooring for a movie who is supposed to have a certain weight…I don’t specially like JLawrence, cause she tries twood o feet to much in Hollyfor my taste, but i will say nthg bad for her and i liked her to the HG anyway. Just please stop it already with the nom thing (old story, boring as hell) and she has nthg special as a person, another looking very kind actress, smiles all the time, tries to feet, as soon as her name started to be heard her decoltee got a little racier. So I don’t see her standing out…In fact I don’t see her much in Gossip blogs after the promotion soooo…

  • guest

Troy must be a hardcore Robsten fan LoL.

  • http://www.byarsdental.com/ Mariah Menard

What did you see this weekend?

  • Chloe

Let me get this straight. Troy says that Twilight shouldn’t even be brought up since this is a Hunger Games article and that he thinks Jennifer Lawrence isnt the best woman in the world and yet that automatically makes him a hardcore Robsten fan? What drugs are you on? He didnt even mention Kristen Stewart or Robert Pattinson.

  • Chloe

No one even mentioned Twilight and yet here you are bitching about it. Get over it. Comparing Twilight and HG is stupid because they are two completely different types of books/movies. If you don’t like the twilight films that’s fine, but don’t post your bullshit here to create drama.

  • Chloe

I agree completely. I’m a fan of the books therefore I would have seen the movie regardless of who was cast. Okay, I take that back because if someone like Megan Fox or Ashley Tisdale was cast then I would skip it. But the majority of fans are seeing the movie because they are fans of the books. Jennifer Lawrence is popular now becomes of THG. THG isn’t popular because of Jennifer.

  • Ryan

Were you dropped on your head as a child? Something is seriously lose inside your head.

  • Ryan

I can honestly say that I wasn’t too sure about the books to begin with. The movie made them seem more interesting. I saw the movie and was disappointed with how much was changed from the books. Not small things, major ones. It was HP5 all over again. They screwed that movie up so bad I refuse to watch it again. I’m on Catching Fire now and I hope they do better with this film.

  • Ryan

Lionsgate is being extremely cheap. Did you know that Jennifer Lawrence only got paid $500,000 to make the movie? The director did pretty good if you cut out the shaky camera. They should give him a raise and invest some more money into the script writing.

  • Ryan

Excuse me, obviously I meant loose not lose :-P

  • Ev

Have you even SEEN interviews? Actress who never says the wrong thing? She’s the one talking about being a chihuahua and peeing on the red carpet, and jokes about it afterwards. Jennifer is not even gorgeous, she has one of the most attractive personalities among the young actors in Hollywood. You’re judging her because of her looks.

  • HappyHungerGames

Troy didn’t say a word about Jennifer’s looks. While I don’t agree with his opinion, he clearly said that he didn’t think her personality was attractive. It’s not like he said she was ugly or something. His comment had nothing to do with her looks.

  • HappyHungerGames

And you get that impression how???

  • HappyHungerGames

Your worse then the twilight fans.

  • HappyHungerGames

Thats a huge load of crap. Winter’s Bone was nominated because they needed filler movies for the awards. It wasnt the best year in film to begin with. The movie was good but definitely not oscar worthy. There wasn’t anything outstanding about Jennifer’s performance. There were a few scenes that were really well done but the rest were dull. Even critics who make oscar prediction lists were shocked that WB and Jennifer were nominated.

  • TinyDancer

Twilight cost $37,000,000 to make versus $80,000,000 for HG. I’m not sure what type of math they taught you in high school, but even after being adjusted for inflation those numbers do not come anywhere near eachother. Let alone “not by much” that you imply above.

  • TinyDancer

You must be a hardcore nonsten.
