Hugh Hefner NOT Dead, Despite Speculation
Hugh Hefner is NOT dead, despite speculation. False rumors of the Playboy founder’s death circulated on Friday, amid reports of deteriorating health.
On Thursday night, the New York Post alleged that Hefner is in such poor condition, visitors to the Playboy Mansion have to sign confidentiality agreements before they can see him. One source told the paper that the 90-year-old is “super sick.” He has not been seen in public in several months.
Reps for Hefner, however, told the outlet, “Hugh Hefner is fine. It is no secret that over the past few years he has suffered with back pain that has made it a bit more challenging for him to get around, but at 90 years of age he is enjoying his life and still very involved in the day-to-day activities of editing the magazine.”
But on Friday afternoon, multiple media outlets received tips claiming Hefner had died. Law enforcement ended up going to the mansion, where staffers reportedly said he was fine. And, according to TMZ, Hefner then called police himself to let them know he was alright.
Hefner’s wife Crystal, whom he married in 2012, has not mentioned the situation on social media, but son Cooper wrote on Twitter earlier in the day, “Apparently my Dad is ‘super sick.’ Based on the fact that I see or chat with him nearly every day that’s news to me #tabloidBS. Gotta love a stupid morning story you can enjoy over coffee.”
The star himself last tweeted in August, and before that, in June. He is pictured above in 2014. Gossip Cop will have updates.
UPDATE: Shortly after this post was published, Hefner sent his first tweet since August 28. Along with a photo of himself with Crystal, he wrote, “Tonight’s Mansion movie is the classic western, ‘Shane.'” He went on to add, “I wish the tabloids had informed me a little earlier in the week that I’m sick. I might have cancelled my weekend plans.”
