Hugh Hefner Dead Rumor NOT True
Hugh Hefner was the victim of a death rumor on Twitter early Saturday morning. The fake news resulted in a flurry of tweets mourning the Playboy founder’s passing. But it’s not true. He has not died. The 90-year-old Hefner is still alive.
After “Hugh Hefner” began to trend, his former girlfriend Kendra Wilkinson tweeted, “He’s OK.” She followed up that message with a second tweet that read, “He’s not dead. You guys scared me.” Hefner himself assured fans he’s fine with a non-related tweet that read, “Tonight’s Mansion movie was Bogie and Bacall in ‘The Big Sleep.'”
A similar rumor spread in late September. As Gossip Cop reported a little more than two months ago, a number of media outlets claimed they had received tips alleging Hefner had died. Law enforcement even went up to the Playboy mansion, where they were greeted by employees who noted Hefner was alright. Not long after that, Hef himself called the police to confirm he was not dead.
And Gossip Cop debunked a Hefner death hoax back in 2011. At the time, Hefner tweeted, “The rumors of my death are, as Mark Twain observed in a similar situation, greatly exaggerated.” “I’m very much alive & kicking,” he further wrote, adding, “I’m lying in bed next to Shera with a big smile on my face, reading tweets about my unexpected demise.”
