Houston, We Have a Problem: No Liftoff for Claim Oprah and Whitney Rumbled

Did Whitney Houston call Oprah “a liar” and clash with the talk titan behind the scenes of their highly publicized interview?

The cover story in this week’s National Enquirer declares that a long-simmering feud between the two erupted when Houston agreed to launch Oprah’s new season with a candid two-part interview as the diva attempts to rehabilitate her career and image. According to the supermarket tab’s so-called “sources,” a “war of egos” and words almost stopped the one-on-one from even happening. “Whitney still bitterly resents how Oprah bad-mouthed her when she was with ex-husband Bobby Brown,” an “insider” told the weekly, and made the host “jump through hoops to get the interview.”

The off-camera “bad blood” supposedly boiled over when Houston expressed her disappointment about Oprah’s “two-faced behavior” during negotiations. Reportedly, “Oprah tried to gloss over it, telling Whitney, ‘We’ve always been good friends.’ But Whitney told her, ‘No! You haven’t been my friend. You’re a liar!’”

And the alleged animosity lasted even after the interview ended, claims the rag. “Whitney poured her heart out to the entire world,” an insider says, “and was disgusted that, after the cameras stopped rolling, rather than console her for reliving some of the most painful times of her life, Oprah was dancing around and pumping her fists in hopes of record-breaking numbers.”

Wow. So is there anything to the Enquirer “exclusive” of behind-the-scenes hostility between the talk show empress and her guest?

Uh, no. Gossip Cop isn’t buying it. Someone who was on the set described the atmosphere as “a total lovefest.” And a rep for Houston told us, the story is “so far from the truth it’s laughable,” calling it “complete lies and shameless journalism.”

From the Enquirer? Really?
