First HollywoodLife lied about Selena Gomez. And then the fabrication factory stole Gossip Cop’s exclusive.

As readers will recall, on Wednesday Gossip Cop exclusively busted an OK! story about Gomez that falsely claimed she planned on “quitting” Hollywood. We have impeccable Gomez sources and have consistently provided accurate information about the singer-actress. Therefore, through our own investigation, we were able to debunk the OK! rumor, and weshared that not just on our website, but also social media.

On Friday, two days later, HollywoodLife opted to be late and wrong. Rather than picking up Gossip Cop’s correct reporting, the webloid regurgitated the OK! allegations as if they were true. The site, without bothering to fact-check, claimed Gomez intended on “quitting” music and show business.

Gossip Cop then pointed out that HollywoodLife had done a disservice by spreading the misinformation, and not bothering to care about the veracity of its story. Approximately three hours after our new article, however, the site did an about-face. A new story was posted with the headline, “Selena Gomez Finished With Making Music? The Truth.”

This one proclaimed to have “the EXCLUSIVE truth.” HollywoodLife wrote that Gomez was, in fact, NOT leaving her career behind. You know, just like Gossip Cop had rightly reported two days prior.

But rather than crediting Gossip Cop, HollywoodLies cited its own “insider.” But this is a site that Gomez has not once, but TWICE blasted for its wrong stories about. People close to the star are NOT running to HollywoodLife to give them “exclusives.”

Gossip Cop is left with only two scenarios. Either HollywoodLife purposefully posted the erroneous tabloid claims with the plan of later flip-flopping in order to exploit webloid clicks. Or HollywoodLife screwed up, saw Gossip Cop’s rightful shaming, and then tried to backtrack to its own advantage.

The site has a proven history, documented by Gossip Cop, of doing both. Indeed, just last month, we highlighted similar behavior after an exclusive Kim Kardashian story was stolen. Sadly, we have a feeling this pattern will continue.
