Heidi Montag‘s plastic surgeon, Dr. Frank Ryan, was reportedly tweeting a message about his dog before his fatal car crash.

People magazine even quotes Ryan’s purported ex-girlfriend, publicist Charmaine Blake, as saying, “He lived up in Malibu on a tiny street and he was texting while driving and he accidentally went over the cliff.”

And the magazine reports Blake said “Ryan’s family was told by investigators that the Tweeting caused the wreck on Monday.”

But is that what really happened?

When Gossip Cop reached out to the still-in-shock Blake, she said, “I didn’t say that.”

Blake told us she hasn’t been able to verify the texting while driving information.

Still, People also writes, “The California Highway Patrol confirms Ryan was texting before the crash, but investigators have not officially determined the cause of the accident.”

Again, is that what really happened?

California Highway Patrol spokesman Steve Reid tells us People‘s report is “totally erroneous,” and that “no investigators told the family that.”

Reid adds there’s “no confirmation because it’s still under investigation.”

But was tweeting a possible cause?

Reid says it’s “too early” to make that determination.

Yesterday, a “devastated Montag tweeted that Dr. Ryan “was the most amazing person I have ever known. He was an angel and changed my life and the lives of everyone he met.”

Gossip Cop will update when more information becomes available.
