Harry Styles Thanks Fans For “Support” After One Direction’s “Drag Me Down” Debuts At Number One In UK
As Gossip Cop reported, One Direction dropped “Drag Me Down” last Friday as a surprise release. The track is the lead single for the group’s upcoming fifth album, and their first new music without Zayn Malik, who quit in March. The song became the fastest ever to hit number one on iTunes, and also broke records on Spotify.
Now one week later, “Drag Me Down” is the top song on the Official Singles Chart in the UK, besting Calvin Harris’ “How Deep Is Your Love.” Ironically, One Direction pushed Little Mix and their song “Black Magic” out of the first position, and Perrie Edwards, the now-ex fiancée of Malik, revealed this week that “Drag Me Down” is her new favorite summer song.
In response to the chart-topping news, Styles tweeted, “Thank you for all the support for Drag Me Down. Couldn’t be happier to find out its number one in the UK. Glad people like it. All the love.” The rest of the guys have yet to weigh in on the milestone, but the band’s official Twitter account posted, “#DragMeDown’s at No.1 in the UK! Thank you!”
“Drag Me Down” is now One Direction’s fourth number one, following “One Way Or Another,” “Little Things,” And “What Makes You Beautiful.” The ranking came in just hours after it was revealed that Ben Winston is directing the “Drag Me Down” video, and NASA will somehow be involved, as random as that may sound. No premiere date has been announced yet, but Gossip Cop will have updates.
UPDATE: Niall Horan tweeted, “#1 thank you so much ! Really means a lot to us … Insane reaction to this song! Much appreciated.”
