Harry Styles On Taylor Swift Writing Songs About Him: “She’s Really Good” (VIDEO)
Harry Styles was put on the spot during Sunday’s One Direction Google Hangout, when he was asked about Taylor Swift writing songs about him. To his credit, the British heartthrob didn’t try to deflect the query, but actually complimented his ex-girlfriend.
One Direction pal Ben Winston was interviewing the boy band about the songwriting process, and asked whether any of the tracks on the upcoming album Four are “about anyone specifically.” Liam Payne answered first, sharing an amusing anecdote about how the song “Illusion” is about his girlfriend Sophia, even though he wasn’t the one to actually write it.
But Winston then turned his attention to Styles, asking what it feels like to be the one whom songs are written about. “Taylor Swift has written some songs about you, it seems like,” Winston said, going on to wonder whether if it “feels odd.” Styles responded, “We always say that we write from personal experience and I think that everyone does. So, it would be hypocritical of us to be like, ‘Oh, you can’t write songs.'”
Styles went on, “And she’s really good. They’re good songs. So I’m lucky in that sense.” Swift has repeatedly denied that her new album 1989 is about relationships and heartbreak, but fans have tied at least one of the tracks, “Out of the Woods,” to her ill-fated romance with Styles.
As Gossip Cop reported earlier, thousands of Directioners tuned in for the live stream, for which fans could submit questions in advance. Google Hangout initially malfunctioned at first due to the high demand, before Styles, Payne and their band mates spent about 40 minutes chatting about their new album, which will be released on November 17. As a bonus, 1D also released a pre-recorded acoustic performance of “Steal My Girl.” Note: Video no longer available.
