Harry Styles Joins Christopher Nolan WWII Movie ‘Dunkirk’
Details about Styles’ role have not been revealed, and the plot of the film is being mostly kept under wraps. However, it has been disclosed that the movie will revolve around the Dunkirk evacuation, which took place at the beginning of WWII. The film’s previously announced cast members include Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh and Mark Rylance.
Nolan, who previously directed the Dark Knight franchise, Inception and Interstellar, had auditioned several actors for the supporting role, but was particularly impressed by Styles’ script reading. The evacuation of Dunkirk involved a rescue mission by the British military, which assembled a fleet of nearly 1000 boats to save more than 330,00 soldiers who were trapped and surrounded by the German army.
Of course, One Direction is currently on hiatus, which gives Styles plenty of free time to foray into the world of acting. The singer previously appeared on the big screen in the 2013 music documentary, One Direction: This Is Us, but Dunkirk will be his first feature film. Gossip Cop will update when we have more information about Styles’ role. Dunkirk is slated to hit theaters on July 21, 2017.
