Harry Styles Celebrates “5 Years Of One Direction” Ahead Of Milestone Anniversary
On Wednesday, fans across the globe began trending “#5YearsOfOneDirection” on Twitter in the United States and worldwide. The actual anniversary falls on Thursday, as July 23 marks the date Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik were put together as a group on “The X Factor UK.” The guys auditioned individually, but Simon Cowell opted to brand them as a five-piece, and they went on to finish in third place in 2010.
Now the rest, as they say, is history. And while the last few months have been the most turbulent yet for fans, with Malik’s exit earlier this year and the recent news that Louis Tomlinson is going to be the father, Directioners still have plenty to celebrate. So does Styles, and he took to Twitter to show his appreciation.
“We have been a band for five years. And it is impossible to thank anyone enough for all the support they have given us over this time,” Styles began. “All the crew that we have been so lucky to work with, and everyone who is behind the scenes. We thank you for everything that you do.”
The British heartthrob went on to write, “To you who support us, in any way, thank you. We wouldn’t be here without you. You did this and we thank you for having us.” And, as Styles always does, he ended with, “All the love.”
One Direction is currently in the midst of the “On The Road Again Tour” North American leg, and they performed in Canada on Tuesday night. Styles, before his anniversary tribute, wrote to fans, “Edmonton was a lot of fun last night. Thank you for being there. Thank you for having us. Hope you enjoyed it. H.” Tell us what you think of One Direction’s big milestone below.
UPDATE: A few hours after Styles’ celebratory tweets, Tomlinson sent some of his own. “Every single day we are thankful for the platform that you incredible people gave us. What an amazing 5 years it’s been!! You have been by far the most incredible fanbase and nothing you do goes unnoticed. We are so lucky to have you guys! Thanks so much,” he wrote. Tomlinson continued, “Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you. My attempt of expressing how thankful we are for you guys!”
