“Hamilton” Cast Grammys Video: Watch “Alexander Hamilton” Grammy Awards Performance Here!
The cast of Hamilton performed “Alexander Hamilton” for the 2016 Grammys on Monday. Watch below!
The performance actually took place at the Richards Rodgers Theatre in New York City, and was featured inside the Staples Center in Los Angeles via satellite and then broadcast on CBS. The cast, led by Hamilton mastermind Lin-Manuel Miranda, sang the opening number to the hit show just as they would for one of their sold-out audiences. It marked the first time the Grammys featured a Broadway performance in more than five years.
And it’s no surprise Hamilton was chosen. The production, which uses hip-hop music to tell the story of Hamilton’s life, is not just critically-acclaimed, but one of the hottest tickets in town, not to mention one of the hardest to get into. Everyone from Beyoncé to President Obama has caught a performance, and Kanye West brought Kim Kardashian just a few days ago.
Of bringing the show to the Grammys, Miranda said in a statement, “The Hamilton cast and crew are absolutely thrilled to be a part of this year’s Grammys Awards. The music community’s response to our cast album has been overwhelming, and we’re honored to be a part of such a special night. To perform from our home at the Richard Rodgers Theatre is a dream come true.”
The cast recording of Hamilton is nominated for Best Musical Theater Album, and should clean up at the Tonys this June. Gossip Cop will have video of the Grammys performance shortly.
