Halle Berry And Olivier Martinez Sued For $5 Million Over Car Seat Fight At LAX
As Gossip Cop reported, on January 4 Berry and Martinez were swarmed by paparazzi as they made their way through Los Angeles International Airport with her daughter Nahla and their son Maceo. Police told Gossip Cop that the couple “required assistance from Los Angeles Airport Police after a crowd of photographers and a contract airport employee came too close to the family to take photos.” Martinez was holding an empty car seat and “shoved it against the contract airport employee causing him to fall backward,” we were told.
The LAX staffer, Ronaldo Owens, was treated on the scene before being taken to a hospital. He filed a battery report against Martinez, but the Los Angeles City Attorney rejected the case for prosecution. Now, however, Owens has filed a lawsuit against both Martinez and Berry for not just battery, but also assault, negligence, and the intentional infliction of emotional distress.
In the filing, Owens’ attorney claims he was in no way interfering with the stars’ exit from the airport, but Martinez “abruptly turned towards Ronaldo and brutally and intentionally charged at Ronaldo using an empty child’s car seat he held in his hands as a weapon, striking Ronaldo to the ground with the seat and causing Ronaldo humiliation and injury.” To support the “humiliation” claim, the suit points to media coverage of the incident.
It’s further stated that Owens was in his rightful place as an LAX employeee, and that Berry encouraged her husband to “attack.” At the time, however, it was also alleged that Owens, like the paparazzi on the scene, was taking photos of the couple. It’s not clear if that was ever confirmed.
The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, seeks at least $5 million in damages. Gossip Cop has reached out to reps for Berry and Martinez for comment. We’ll have updates.
