Gwyneth Paltrow Testifies Against Stalker Who Threatened Physical And Sexual Violence
Gwyneth Paltrow testified in a Los Angeles court on Monday against Dante Soiu, a man who has allegedly stalked the actress for 17 years. Soiu is facing a felony charge for sending Paltrow 66 letters between 2009 and 2015, many of which threatened the actress with physical and sexual violence.
Paltrow read the jurors various excerpts from several of the letters, including passages about Soiu’s plan to use a scalpel “to cut out sin” from her body, and additional threats of a sexual nature. Over the course of nearly two decades, Soiu has also sent packages containing pornography and sex toys to Paltrow’s home. In 2009, he sent the actress a pair of earrings, along with a note describing his intention to marry her.
Paltrow testified that Soiu’s letters have been disturbing, upsetting and detrimental to her sense of security. Soiu, however, has plead not guilty to the charges against him. His attorney claims his recent letters haven’t been pornographic or threatening, and that he’s a religious man who’s simply trying to help the actress.
This isn’t the first time that Soiu has been charged with stalking Paltrow. In 2000, he was tried for sending obscene letters and packages, but he was found not guilty by reason of insanity and went on to spend several years in a mental institution. Gossip Cop will update as this latest trial further develops.
