Gwen Stefani Performs “Make Me Like You” On ‘SNL’ – WATCH VIDEO
Gwen Stefani performed “Make Me Like You” on this week’s “SNL.” The song is the second single off her new album This Is What The Truth Feels Like. See the video below of Gwen Stefani’s performance of “Make Me Like You” on “Saturday Night Live.”
This is the fifth time Gwen Stefani has been the musical guest on “Saturday Night Live.” She first performed with her group No Doubt back in 1996 when Martin Short hosted the show. No Doubt returned five years later in 2001. Then in 2005, Stefani came back alone to be the musical guest when Ashton Kutcher hosted. She was again on the “SNL” stage with Akon a year later as the musical guests when Annette Bening hosted the sketch comedy show in 2006. And now for her fifth time in a span of 20 years, Stefani is performing once more on “Saturday Night Live,” while Peter Dinklage hosts the show.
“Make Me Like You” is about finding love once again after a breakup. With its lyrics, including “Thank God I found you, “ many have speculated that Stefani wrote the song about her new boyfriend Blake Shelton after the end of her 13-year marriage to Gavin Rossdale. And Stefani herself later acknowledged “Make Me Like You” is indeed about her romance with Shelton.
The video for “Make Me Like You” was shot in one single take at the 2016 Grammys. It’s the first music video ever to have been filmed live. The highly creative video also references the spate of fake pregnancy rumors manufactured about Stefani. At one point, while she’s sitting in a hair salon, the singer reads a mock tabloid with the headline, “Gwen Pregnant With Alien Baby!” There’s also a nod to Shelton in the video when Stefani performs the song in a club called “Blake’s.”
