Children’s Place Ripped For Excluding Gamora From Guardians of the Galaxy Shirt Because It’s For “Boys” (PHOTO)
Children’s Place, the popular kids’ clothing retailer, is selling a Guardians of the Galaxy t-shirt featuring the movie’s characters — with one noticeable exception.
While Rocket, Groot, and Drax the Destroyer are all showcased, Gamora, played in the film by Zoe Saldana, is inexplicably left off the design.
One disturbed mom contacted the company for an explanation, and shared the customer service reply on Twitter.
“The Guardians of the Galaxy shirt in particular is a boy’s shirt, which is why it does not include the female character Gamora,” the rep said in part.
We’re not sure what’s more offensive — the implication that girls can’t like Guardians of the Galaxy, or the suggestion that boys can’t have an interest in a female character.
As the concerned mom herself wondered, “This is 2014, right?”
Who’s missing from this #GuardiansOfTheGalaxy shirt at @childrensplace? WHY NO GAMORA SERIOUSLY. pic.twitter.com/QJLif6Fyve

.@childrensplace So, I tell my daughter, “there’s no female on this because the shirt isn’t for you in the first place” and that’s OK? — Kristen (@kristenrapp) August 18, 2014
