GQ Australia Apologizes For Taylor Lautner Gay Pass Question

(GQ Australia)

GQ Australia has apologized for a recent Taylor Lautner interview in which the magazine asked whether two gay Hollywood figures had hit on the actor during a recent dinner.

In the original article, the interviewer asked Lautner if either Dustin Lance Black or Gus Van Sant had made a pass at him when they met at a restaurant last summer.

“No, definitely not,” replied Lautner. “I think they know I’m straight. But they’re great guys. They’re a lot of fun.”

On his blog, Black took GQ to task for implying that he and Van Sant would prey on Lautner because of their sexuality, writing, “Above and beyond this clear attack on my character, I’m shocked that GQ would allow their writer to lean on the scurrilous, outdated stereotype that gay men are by nature sexual predators.”

Now, the magazine has issued an apology on its Facebook page.

“We’ve seen some of the comments floating around regarding our recent interview with Taylor Lautner and apologise if anyone was offended by anything in the article,” reads the note.

GQ continues, “It certainly wasn’t our intention to paint anyone in the story as a sexual predator. The point we were actually trying to push was that Taylor is irresistible to virtually everyone – regardless of sexuality or gender.”

“Hence the film crew cheering at his shirtless scenes while shooting Twilight, and Mark Wahlberg deeming him better looking than Leonardo DiCaprio.”

What do you think of the magazine’s statement?

That “apology” is no apology. Apologizing “if someone is offended” is no way to apologize.

    They have NOT apologised.

Its like locking the barn door after the horse is gone. Damage done. Maybe they will do better next time~~or not. These mags just love to stir the pot. Those smutty inuendos boost circulation.

Sooo Lame! (BTW: the jaw in the picture is not Lautner’s (though he would be really good-looking if he had one like that) Nice cover anyway.)

This kid is gay and although he has a valid point in his rebuff, I still think he is so far in the closet he is tangled in XMAS lights LMAO

Taylor is such an obviously censored closet case…my Gaydar goes off the chart every time he opens his mouth and pearls fall out…its a shame a young good looking talented guy such as he is cannot feel like he would be “employable” if he came out…cause if he is even half straight, Ill eat my hat.

it wasn’t an apology, but they had nothing to apologize about seeing that people took GQ’s words out of context. All GQ did was clear the air of misunderstanding.

I totally agree. Suggesting (jokingly or otherwise) that one person might hit on another person is in no way suggesting he’s a sexual predator. If an interviewer asked Megan Fox whether she was recently hit on by Matthew McConaughey, would people be having the save crapfit? Puh-leeze.

DLB’s reckless equivocation is a disservice to people who’ve actually been victims (or wrongly accused) of sexual predation.
