We know better than to trust Fox411 when it comes to “Twilight” reporting (let’s just say they haven’t exactly had the strongest week), but this one really had us scratching our heads.

Buried halfway down the millionth recycled version of a speculative Internet “are they or aren’t they?” story about Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart come comments from “an inside source,” who tells the blog an off-screen Robsten romance “caused major friction with fellow Twilighter Nikki Reed, who started dating Pattinson late last year.” The article goes on to…

Wait, wait. Back up. What was that?

That’s right… just before tossing aside “tabloid talk” detailing the over-the-top life Pattinson and Stewart supposedly shared in their hotel suites high above Vancouver (talk, by the way, that Gossip Cop already debunked weeks ago), Fox411 claims that a Robsten relationship cut short one between Pattinson and Reed (“Rokki”?), who “were together” after the first film finished shooting. The site’s “insider” says “sparks” between Pattinson and Stewart led them to end their respective couplings, “So Nikki was the one to get hurt.”

Oh, boy. This is so, so old, and so, so wrong. This summer, Jennie Garth supposedly “outed” a Rob relationship with either Reed or Stewart… except Gossip Cop actually obtained a transcript of her interview and she didn’t.

And Reed herself has never acknowledged a relationship.

Ah, but Fox411 devises a convenient cover – “Nikki was really in love with Rob,” says their source, “but we’re all scared to bring it up now. It’s something we just don’t talk about.”

OK, then! So again we have a relationship that can’t be confirmed because everyone who “knows” about it is too scared.

Can Fox411 come up with a third crazy Pattinson rumor before the week ends? Stay tuned!

wow gossipcop, you just lost all credibility you had with me. it’s common knowledge that nikki and rob had a “thing” during twilight. maybe they weren’t official, certainly not boyfriend/girlfriend, but it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that nikki wanted more than rob and she was obviously hurt when rob chose kristen over her. do you have another explanation why nikki and kristen were inseperable before and now are hardly seen together??? i didn’t think so. you might want to dig a little deeper for the truth before you say others are lying. perhaps, fox411 has better info than you? it sure seems like it.

Grace, you have to remember, that Dan Abrams, one of the founders of GC worked for MSNBC, so of course he hates all things FOX. Although I enjoy GC, I will always take their FOX stories with a little grain of salt.

didn’t know that michelle. thanks for the info. i think GC were probably right with their last critique of fox411 (the one about SNL), but on this one….they’re totally off. it’s a shame when someone has a bias and can’t report the truth for what it is.

Actually I think I do…
… probably because before Kristen wasn’t chased as she is now-a-days, so she could actually come out and have fun with friends…
… I think when Kristen is out (recently) is just to do work stuff, like promotion, pics, filming… so, it usually involves Taylor and Robert (aka principal characters of the movie), not Nikki… probably later with the movie they’re on together, who knows…

Actually I think, please correct me if wrong, but there was a party or something with the cast, and Kristen and Nikki were together along and leaving it… and also I think they were doing pizza-night or something like that one day… and who knows what else is happening behind the cameras that we don’t know… and IMHO shouldn’t care…
I just think they both look happy when hanging out together… like real friends… I have this memory in my mind (from ComicCon outside saying “hi” to ppl), when Kristen turns, realizes Nikki is right behind her, and squeezes Nikki in a hug as any of us would do when haven’t seen a friend for a long time, for whichever the reasons are that only she knows (and me speculates it was work, ie. filming other movie)…

More than that… *shrugs*

And to the actual “information” Fox411 gives… In a (in fact) recent interview, Nikki said something like she didn’t even dated Robert, so… *shrugs again*… I’m not buying ANYTHING that has “Fox” label since a while… a very long while…

I will concede one thing, I have no idea if Nikki and Rob had a “thing.” No clue. As a result, I also have no idea if Fox411 was wrong. I do know that the editor of this site and my partner, Michael Lewittes, has sources as good as anyone in the business and he just wants the truth. He is the ones making the calls on ALL content on this site, not me.

Honestly, if I was going to take my supposed axe and decide to swing it at Fox it would be much easier to do it on my site Mediaite.com which often covers Fox News Channel. Then again, I don’t supervise the content on that site either and we have had more people accuse us of being too soft on Fox news rather than too harsh.

I am sorry if that does not fit as neatly into your theory. Most important, thanks for reading Gossip Cop!

if you (or your staff) truly don’t know the past situation between rob/nikki maybe this sentence, “Oh, boy. This is so, so old, and so, so wrong” was a bad choice of words.

also, the title is misleading because you DON’T KNOW if “Fox411 Lacks Any 411 on Robert Pattinson with Nikki Reed”.

and rating it a “1″ on the rumor meter seems low when you just stated you actually have no idea if it is a rumor or not.

in short, maybe you (and your staff) should be certain a story is lacking veracity before you call them out. it will give you more credibility. at least with me.

Well, I might as well jump into the fray here. Yes, as Maguilita stated, Nikki herself has said that she didn’t date Pattinson, a guy most women would be happy to let the world know they dated.

But even if we don’t take Nikki’s word, Grace wrote, “it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that nikki wanted more than rob and she was obviously hurt when rob chose kristen over her.” I’m not sure how one can guess another person’s hidden intentions, but it you’ve been following Gossip Cop, you probably realize that we have numerous inside sources (and have broken lots of “Twilight” stories) — and not one person could confirm a romance between Nikki and Rob — “official,” unofficial or otherwise.

On a separate note, this has nothing to do with Fox or any agenda. As a matter of fact, I have many, many dear friends at Fox. But if a story is factually inaccurate, I will correct it, regardless of which outlet it is.

Thanks Grace, Maguilita, Michelle (and even you, Dan) — we want people to question, debate and hold the media accountable, including Gossip Cop!

I’m a couple days late with this but I just want to thank the Cops for responding to the messages left. Not too many sites will answer thier critics and I think it’s just one of the many reasons why I trust you guys for my ever so fruitful gossip on a daily basis. =)

And you also have to remember, Twi-hards don’t miss a beat ;)
