Did Golden Globes Accidentally Reveal Best Picture Winners With Website Glitch?
Did the Golden Globes accidentally reveal the Best Picture winners early? On Friday, two days ahead of the awards ceremony, the official Golden Globes site briefly listed Selma as “Best Motion Picture, Drama” and Into the Woods as “Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy.” According to Deadline, the titles “popped up” beneath the images for last year’s champs, 12 Years A Slave and American Hustle, before being removed.
According to the people behind the Golden Globes, it was nothing more than a glitch. “While testing the official website of the Golden Globe Awards for Sunday’s ceremony, Bluefin inadvertently took the test live,” a spokesperson for the tech company told Deadline. “We randomly selected two film titles with no knowledge of the category winners. We are solely responsible for the error.”
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which runs the awards, claims only the firm Ernst & Young has access to the list of winners before the broadcast. Assuming Selma and Into the Woods were just pulled randomly for a test, and that no one updating the Golden Globes site has knowledge of which films will actually be picked as winners, the snafu didn’t actually spoil anything. And if the two movies do wind up as Sunday’s big winners? Gossip Cop expects it will be called a coincidence.
