Glenn Close Playing Hillary Clinton In Movie?
Will Glenn Close play Hillary Clinton in a movie? That’s the latest rumor. But Gossip Cop can exclusively correct the claim, which comes from one of the tabloids.
The false allegation can be found in the current edition of the National Enquirer. The article wrongly asserts, “A movie is in the works about Hillary Clinton, and Glenn Close has been tapped to play the former FLOTUS and failed presidential candidate.” The supermarket tabloid quotes a purported “tipster” as saying, “Glenn and Meryl [Streep]’s names have been mentioned a lot.”
“But after Streep inserted herself into politics at the Golden Globes, producers feel Close would be better,” continues the supposed source, who very unnaturally switched from “Glenn” and “Meryl” to “Close” and “Streep.” This questionable snitch adds that the film will “focus on Hillary’s career later in life and through the election.”
In addition to the suspect language, it’s awfully suspicious that the gossip magazine would score a scoop like this, as opposed to one of the trade outlets. Well, Gossip Cop investigated, and we’ve learned this tale was fabricated. A rep for Glenn exclusively tells us it’s completely untrue she’ll be playing Clinton in a film.
What’s more is that we also hear the National Enquirer was told its contention was wrong, but the facts-challenged publication chose to print it anyway. Gossip Cop suspects the only reasons Close was linked to this non-existent project is because she impersonated Clinton at last year’s Tony Awards (see photo above), and the former Secretary of State went to see the actress in Sunset Boulevard on Broadway last month.
None of that, of course, means there’s a Close-Clinton movie in the works. The tabloid also has a long history of running false articles about the former First Lady. Last fall, Gossip Cop called out a particularly shameful cover story that outrageously said Clinton was suffering from “deadly health conditions.”
