Tuesday’s episode of “Glee” featured a stellar rendition of Whitney Houston‘s “I Will Always Love You” – a scene filmed long before the iconic singer died on Saturday.

Producers not only opted to keep the scene in its Valentine’s Day episode, but also decided to posthumously dedicate the episode to Houston.

“Glee” star Amber Riley, who as her character Mercedes sang “I Will Always Love You” after an emotional moment with Chord Overstreet‘s Sam, revealed before the Grammys on Sunday that she had the chance to meet Houston just days before her passing.

    wow, thats crazy!

  • Cutie_sweet_loveable

She should have been asked to sing for the grammys instead of Jennifer Hudson…amber did Great!

  • Shayes

She was brilliant. She sounded so much like Whitney, it gave me chills. I wish she sang at the Grammy’s…. WOW…

  • Linda Gentry

Oh Amber! Beautiful! Just beautiful! While Jennifer Hudson did a beautiful job singing I Will Always Love You at the Grammys under trying circumstances, Amber does an amazing job second only to Miss Whitney Houston! Absolutely beautiful!!!

  • http://twitter.com/Jesse_Sanchez Jesse Sanchez

This is “prerecorded” singing with editing, HELP, and so forth…. Hudson did an amazing job!

  • Vortextempest

Not live means cant be compared to live performances. I prefer Leann Rimes and Charice’s versions over this one but it is nice; would like to hear this live.

  • dianne

prerecorded or not this is as close to whitney as one can get!!!!!

  • Robin1975

It’s a Dolly Parton song. Whitney did a cover.

  • French Flies

Yep. It’s Dolly’s song. Get with the program, GC.

  • Elsdez22

beautiful, had chills and had to hold back my tears :( Can’t believe it was recorded before Whitney’s passing and aired the next Glee episode after she passed-like wow – that was something-RIP Whitney and again beautiful, beautiful job Amber ;)

  • Guest

Damn, that was awesome! Whitney would be proud.

  • MyKinKStar

Sure she did a great job, as did Jennifer Hudson at the Grammy Awards, BUT I don’t agree that anyone singing ANY song should be about sounding or copying the way another person did it. What an insult to the talent of the singer, to have to sound or sing like another person who sang the song, as if their own style or ability doesn’t matter enough! Just think . . . Dolly Parton wrote the song (for Porter Wagner in fact), so what if when Whitney sang it years later it was all about her sounding like Dolly? Makes NO Sense!

  • Bukovsgirl

Nothing against Jennifer, as I love her, but Amber is amazing. I don’t know why she’s not a household name. I think she’s just as sgood, if not etter than Lea.

  • Bukovsgirl

oops – BETTER oh – and “good.” I’m too used to auto spell check.

  • alexstorm

She killed it! Brought tears to my eyes!!

  • squirrels

Thank you! Someone finally said what I was thinking. It’s NOT a Whitney Houston song…it’s a Dolly Parton song. I believe Dolly’s own version is better than Whitney’s over the top one. I’ve always believed that. Sorry if I disappoint, but that’s what I believe.

Everyone has their preference and styling of the song. Yes, Dolly wrote and sang it, and it is very sweet, however, Whitney’s cover version is the one people will remember, her voice hit those high notes and you were euphoric over it. Amber did a terrific job and because Whitney has just recently passed it made the song that more poignant. Jennifer Hudson is a great singer, however, her version was not my favorite, however, she did an amazing job on such short notice and it would have been so wrong if she did try to sound like Whitney. I think Jennifer is more suited for those songs as she performed in Dreamgirls. They all have talent but Whitney’s cover version will be the one remembered the most. Amber’s version on Glee just reminded us of the loss of such a great talent.

Wow, she absolutely knocked it out of the park.

This version actually made me a little teary eyed & that doesn’t happen, regardless of who’s singing it. Amber Riley is an amazing singer, it’s sad she doesn’t get as much recognition as a singer like Lea Michele does.

Whitney isn’t even the first perosn to cover the song Linda Ronstadt was in 1975 on her album Prisoner In Disquise. Whitney only covered it because Kevin Costner was is a huge Dolly Parton fan and they needed a big song for the end of the film

  • Janicewade3

It doesn’t matter, the song is beautiful no matter who does it. Dolly Parton wrote and performed the song, but she appreciated how Whitney covered it and said so. Most artists who write songs that are good, not only perform them themselves, but also have their songs covered by others. Ask Prince about that. Whitney did a great rendition of Dolly Parton’s song, but it will be remembered as Whitney’s song. I loved Jennifer Hudson’s rendition, but the heart that Amber put in it, blew it away. I didn’t expect that it would bring tears to my eyes, but it did. I have nothing but admiration and thanks for the job Amber Riley did on “I Will Always Love You”!
