“Glee” Creator Ryan Murphy And Kings of Leon at War

Truth rating: 10

It’s war.

Last year, Kings of Leon denied the hit show rights to their song “Use Somebody,” and now creator Ryan Murphy is lashing out.

“F*** you, Kings of Leon. They’re self-centered a**holes, and they missed the big picture,” says Murphy.

“They missed that a 7-year-old kid can see someone close to their age singing a Kings of Leon song, which will maybe make them want to join a glee club or pick up a musical instrument,” Murphy tells The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s like, OK, hate on arts education. You can make fun of Glee all you want, but at its heart, what we really do is turn kids on to music.”

Those are fighting words.

The band’s frontman, Caleb Followill, responded to Murphy in a statement to THR: “This whole Glee thing is a shock to us. It’s gotten out of hand. At the time of the request, we hadn’t even seen the show. It came at the end of that record cycle, and we were over promoting [“Use Somebody”]. This was never meant as a slap in the face to Glee or to music education or to fans of the show. We’re not sure where the anger is coming from. We just said no to a license for a TV show, which we do a lot.”

But the lead singer’s brother, drummer Nathan Followill, isn’t letting Murphy’s comments go.

He just tweeted, “Dear Ryan Murphy, let it go. See a therapist, get a manicure, buy a new bra. Zip your lip and focus on educating 7yr olds how to say f***.”

My appreciation for KOL Just grew

I agree with KOL, let it go. Jeez, like no one is ALLOWED to say not to Glee? That show is getting seriously close to jumping the shark (if they haven’t already) and I agree with Amy L: my appreciation for the band just grew.

Ryan Murphy missed the big picture. HE is a self-centered a-hole (and how eloquent of him to make an argument using profanities…so classy.)

I totally agree with KOL. It is their right to say no to someone using their song. Ryan Murphy just made a huge ass of himself and his show. He is being a bully, like no one has the right to say no to Glee. Give me a break. I agree with all the comments above. He needs to get over himself and his show. KOL = COOL!
