Giuliana Rancic: I Have Breast Cancer

Giuliana Rancic has revealed that she has breast cancer.

The red carpet host and reality star shared the news this morning on the “Today Show” while discussing her attempts to start a family with husband Bill Rancic through in-vitro fertilization.

“Through my attempt to get pregnant for the third time, we sadly found out that I have early stages of breast cancer,” said Rancic. “It’s been a shock. A lot of people have been asking, ‘We saw that you went and got IVF, are you pregnant?’ But sadly, we’ve had to put that off.”

Rancic was alerted to the cancer after her IVF doctor recommended she get a mammogram.

She will undergo surgery this week, to be followed by six weeks of radiation treatment.

Rancic’s prognosis is good, thanks to early detection.

“I still want this baby… because this baby has saved my life,” she said. “I truly feel God was looking out after me… If I had gotten pregnant later down the line, I could have been a lot sicker.”

    Wow that does not sound good. I’m glad she caught it early. My friend also has breast cancer. Thank god they caught in time for her. But, that’s a shocking and sad story. :(

    After I heard this story, I called my gyn to request a mammogram also since I am undergoing IVF as well. The nurse called back and said that I can not get one electively unless I was 40 or older or if I had a family history- meaning mother or sister with breast cancer. Odd that I can’t request one as a preventative.

    That doesn’t sound right. My gyn suggested I get a baseline mammogram done when I was 38 and I just had one today at 40. You should look into some radiology labs and ask them if it’s possible to have one done without a doctor’s orders.

    I wish the best for Giuliana. Her story reminded me that I had a mammo lab order that I needed to get done, so I just went today.

    wow sad but only the stars have enough money to get mammograms .. they are not freee even if you have all the signs….fml
