REPORTS: Four Actresses Vying for ‘Dragon Tattoo’ Role

And then there were four.

Multiple reports have the field of actresses competing for the role of Lisbeth Salander in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo down to Rooney Mara, Lea Seydoux, Sarah Snook and Sophie Lowe.

The buzz around the quartet of relative unknowns replaces earlier speculation that an A-list actress would wind up as Stieg Larsson‘s hacker heroine.

Among the major actresses thought (at one point) to be candidates for the role: Natalie Portman, Ellen Page, Carey Mulligan and Kristen Stewart.

Earlier this week, Daniel Craig was cast as journalist Mikael Blomkvist.

The film, to be directed by David Fincher, comes out in December 2011.

Gossip Cop will have confirmation when the Salander decision is finalized.
