Geraldo Rivera: Caitlyn Jenner Transition “Motivated By Big Pay Day,” Kardashians Are “Fakest People” (VIDEO)
In the latest installment of The Wrap’s “Drinking with the Stars,” in which celebrities spill while having a few choice beverages, Rivera sounds off on everything from Donald Trump to the Kardashians. As Gossip Cop reported, Rivera was the runner-up on “Celebrity Apprentice” earlier this year, and he now says of Trump, “I love the guy. He’s a hang-out buddy, and yet I am totally offended by the way he characterized Mexican immigrants during his [presidential] announcement.”
But Rivera had harsher words for Jenner and the Kardashians. When asked about Jenner being embraced as a woman but Rachel Dolezal getting “scorned” for identifying as black, Rivera replies, “Well, I have two words for the Caitlyn Jenner story that no one in your audience will appreciate. The two words are Kris Humphries.” Humphries, of course, is Kim Kardashian’s ex-husband, whom she separated from after just 72 days of marriage.
“Why do I mention Kris Humphries? I think that the Kardashians are the fakest people. They are totally created — brilliantly,” continues Rivera. “They have the talent and promotion more than anyone.”
He goes on, “And I wonder how much of Bruce — who I interviewed as Bruce a couple times over the years — how much of that is motivated by the big pay day at the end of it.” Rivera further suggests Jenner’s coming out was schemed with Kris Jenner’s help, saying, “Do you think that Bruce could’ve fooled Kris Kardashian all of these years, that he really pulled the wool over her eyes? One of the most clever, perceptive, insightful women in public life in America today, she was hoodwinked?”
Of course, Rivera’s points have some inaccuracies, and actually come off as transphobic. For starters, though, Kris’ current last name, as it has been for more than 20 years is Jenner, not Kardashian. And Kris and Caitlyn have admitted to having clashing recollections about what was known about his gender identity issues during their marriage. Furthermore, it seems doubtful Kris would willingly to choose to conspire with her ex on the transition, given the amount of embarrassment and mockery she’s suffered in recent months.
Also, it’s worth mentioning that Kim and Kourtney Kardashian memorably addressed the allegation that the Humphries union was merely a publicity stunt during a 2013 “Late Show” appearance. As Gossip Cop reported at the time, Kourtney sniped to David Letterman, “I think if [Kim] was going to do it for publicity, she’d pick something that people knew.”
Still, watch the video below, and tell us if you think Rivera’s arguments are valid. Is it fair to question Jenner’s transition just because of his association with the Kardashians?
