George Stephanopoulos is using his clout to help wife Ali Wentworth join ABC’s “The View,” claims the National Enquirer.

According to the tabloid, Stephanopoulos, who was recently promoted to chief anchor of ABC News, wants his wife on the daytime talk show “now that creator Barbara Walters has retired and Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy have recently been axed.”

“George is a bigwig at ABC,” a so-called “source” tells the magazine. “If he wants Ali on ‘The View,’ it’s going to be hard for the network to say no.” An alleged “friend” then notes that Wentworth was “heavily in the running” to join “The View” last year, but was passed over. “[Stephanopoulos] doesn’t want to see that happen again,” adds a so-called “pal,” who talks to tabloids.

So, will Wentworth be one of the new co-hosts of “The View”? NOPE. A real source, who’s close to the respected newsman, tells Gossip Cop exclusively that the Enquirer story is not only “100% false,” but also that Wentworth never even sought a job co-hosting “The View.”
