Gene Simmons and KISS Pulled From Michael Jackson Tribute Concert
2:14 pm, August 16th, 2011
The promoters of Michael Jackson‘s tribute concert have pulled Gene Simmons and KISS from the October 8 show’s lineup.
The move comes amid controversy over Simmons’ prior remarks about Jackson being a pedophile.
In 2010, the KISS bassist was quoted as saying, “Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. There’s no question in my mind [Jackson] molested those kids. Not a doubt.”
After news of the band’s inclusion in the tribute broke, Jackson fans protested.
“We have listened to Michael’s fans and are grateful to have been alerted to these unfortunate statements by Gene Simmons,” say the promoters in a statement.
They add, “Under the circumstances we fully agree that even though KISS is a band Michael admired we have no choice but to rescind our invitation to them to appear in our tribute concert.”
A rep for the band would not comment to Gossip Cop.
