VIDEO: Blind Singer Garrett Miles Amazes On American Idol Premiere
A blind singer named Garrett Miles amazed on “American Idol” on Thursday, auditioning in both English and Spanish during part two of the season 14 premiere. Watch the video below!
The 25-year-old from Alabama revealed he was diagnosed with optic nerve hypoplasia as a child, but Miles hasn’t let the fact that he can’t see stop him from pursuing his love of singing. Miles has had some help from his father, who affectionately calls himself Miles’ “roadie,” happily taking his equipment to gigs and setting up for performances.
It was Miles’ dad, his “biggest supporter,” who encouraged him to audition to “Idol.” And it was most definitely the right move. Miles initially wowed with his version of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Proud Mary,” with judge Keith Urban saying that the contestant’s voice was so strong and unique, he could successfully cover anything but still amazingly sound like himself.
And Miles went on to prove it. After telling Jennifer Lopez he’s loved her since seeing Selena, he sang a bit of “Como La Flor.” “I rest my case,” Urban quipped afterward. He then got up to bring Miles a ticket to Hollywood, saying, “It’s a yes from all of us, I’m assuming.” It absolutely was. Miles will inevitably be compared to the visually-impaired Scott MacIntyre, who finished eighth back in season 8. Check out the video below, and tell us what you think!
